Belle's Design caught my eyes with their distinctive headband designs. The use of Sarawak Traditional beads signifies the origin of the makers for these headbands, which is the land of Borneo.

Owner of Belle's Design, Mary Lika said her mother had been passionate in beading since her younger days, but beading on headbands was not in her list of products she crafted until Belle's Design was formed.

Each headband is time consuming as it requires detailed workmanship. Mary's mother applies her ideas and inspirations from Iban Traditional costumes on the headband designs. Their good quality beads are specially imported from Japan, and strong nylon string is used to hold the beads firmly and to ensure their product is long lasting even in contact with water/ rain.

They always have customers who opt for a headband made and named after them so no other user will be seen sharing the same piece. Mary sees opportunity in introducing Sarawak Traditional beads headbands to oversea buyers through her sister who is staying in USA.

Fashion Design has always been a dream for Eileen Phoan, the hands behind Left&Right. After high school, Eileen was offered a chance to enter a Fashion Design school. However, due to unexpected circumstances, she took up Mechanical Engineering course instead. At that moment, Eileen felt demotivated and lost, for she had to let go the only passion she holds firm.

Who would have thought that Left&Right's establishment came from a handmade card? 2 years ago by chance, Eileen's cousin saw a handmade card that she handmade for a friend. It was then when the cousin asked Eileen to produce more cards and put up for sale. Eventually from cards, Eileen attempted to make her very first jewelry by the end of year 2010.

According to Eileen, Left&Right represents the work of Left brain (the brain that rules logic and analysis) and Right brain (brain that rules creativity). The most important factors in her craft work are originality, quality and the meaning behind every piece. Left&Right's designs are timeless where owners can keep them for years and still use it while reminiscing the memories.

Place your custom orders few months ahead to avoid disappointment. As for ready stocks, they can be purchased via Facebook or local bazaars.

After having a daughter in 2010, Erica started making hair accessories for her little girl to match her outfits. This explains why at Klips & Bandz, you'll see more accessories for kids.

Loving all things girly and handmade, Erica learns to make all these accessories through online tutorials and self experiments. She purchases her unique and cute printed ribbons overseas, mainly USA and Hong Kong. As for other materials, Erica said they can be obtained at our local craft stores.

Headbands has became a trend due to the establishment of a well-known brand that markets high end headbands. Strike while the iron is hot, Karen Eva Chin, founder of Eva Monte Inspired Designs came out with the idea to make her collections of headbands but priced at an affordable range so more girls can join in the trend.

Eva Monte Inspired Designs differs themselves from other handmade headband brands with its quality, workmanship and simplistic designs. Karen seeks inspirations for her designs everywhere, from menswear to story books etc. They keep their designs minimal because apparently, crazy stuff are not reflective of who they are.

Keeping good quality in mind, Eva Monte's headband bases are imported from USA, but at the same time they purchase other materials locally as well.

For year 2013, Karen says she is going to revamp Eva Monte Inspired Designs to create other types of products. Currently they have started on corsages, cuffs and bibs.

Haus Of Crafts

I don't know bout you but when I saw Haus Of Crafts' greeting cards, I was surprised to learn that they were outcome of two young gentlemen! Founder Ronnie created this online store in April 2012, and his co-worker Paul joined him few months ago. Since then their strong passion in crafting has been increasing. 

Ronnie & Paul has a day job at a local press based in Kuching, where notepads are highly used in their journalism job. Started off by making their own recycled notepads, they discovered the fun out of paper crafts. Hence they expanded their craftsmanship to venture into other products.

Mainly involving papers, Haus Of Crafts makes greetings cards, notepads and bookmarks. Besides paper-based goodies, they dabbed in creating headbands but only upon request.

Dealing with a hobby that requires creativity, the hands behind Haus Of Crafts said Martha Stewart's website is truly inspiring. They at the same time obtained ideas from TV series 2 Broke Girls, online resources plus magazines. Hearing people go "Oh-my-god!" upon seeing their handicrafts gives the 2 guys plenty of satisfaction.

 

Even though they have a limited time to spare for their hobby, Ronnie and Paul somehow manage to handle it well so far, slotting in time for meet-ups and discussion for craft projects. Participating in offline events is their method in promoting the business and market the goods. .
